NetSuite × AI

AI for NetSuite: Claude and ChatGPT over your ERP

Connect an AI assistant to NetSuite through Oracle's AI Connector Service and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — with read-only, role-based access your finance and operations teams can trust. Designed and governed by Atypical Tech, a NetSuite integration partner in Spain.

The real project

Connecting AI is the easy part. Governing it well is the project.

Plugging Claude or ChatGPT into NetSuite takes an afternoon. The hard part is making sure the assistant only sees what each person is allowed to see, never writes something it shouldn't, and leaves an audit trail your controller can defend. That is an integration and governance problem — exactly the work we do every day.

We deploy AI over NetSuite the way we deploy any ERP integration: read-only by default, scoped by role, logged end to end, and rolled out on a sandbox before it ever touches production.

What your team can ask

Answers from your ERP, in plain language

Real questions your teams already ask — now answered in seconds, straight from NetSuite.

Finance & treasury

  • What's our cash position across all subsidiaries today?
  • Show overdue invoices over €10k, by customer.
  • Which expenses are pending approval, and how long have they waited?
  • Compare this month's revenue to the same month last year.

Operations & warehouse

  • Which items are below reorder point right now?
  • What's the status of purchase order 12345?
  • List sales orders stuck in fulfillment for more than 3 days.
  • How much stock of SKU X is on hand across all locations?

Sales & customers

  • What's the open pipeline for the enterprise segment?
  • Give me a full overview of this customer in one click.
  • Which quotes expire this week and haven't been followed up?

Leadership

  • How did we close last quarter versus budget?
  • Who are our top 5 customers by margin this year?
  • Summarize month-end status: what's still open?

How we implement it

From idea to a governed pilot

1 Week 1

Scope & access model

We map the questions each team wants answered and design the role-based access model — who can ask what, and what stays off-limits.

2 Week 1–2

Connect via MCP

We wire the AI assistant to NetSuite through the AI Connector Service and Model Context Protocol, read-only by default, on a sandbox instance.

3 Week 2–3

Govern & audit

We enforce record- and field-level permissions, log every query, and red-team the assistant to confirm it can't leak or write beyond its scope.

4 Week 3–4

Pilot & roll out

We run a pilot with one team on your production data, tune the prompts and guardrails, then expand department by department.

Security & governance

Built to pass your controller's review

The governance layer is the deliverable — not an afterthought.

Least privilege

  • Read-only by default; write actions are opt-in and separately approved.
  • Access scoped to each user's NetSuite role, record and field permissions.
  • No bulk export — the assistant queries your ERP, it doesn't copy it.

Auditable

  • Every question and answer logged with the user and a timestamp.
  • A full trace of which records the assistant touched, for any query.
  • Deployed on sandbox first; production rollout is staged and reversible.

Compliant

  • Runs against your own NetSuite instance and your chosen AI model.
  • GDPR-aware: data residency and retention are decided by you, not us.
  • Guardrails red-teamed before go-live, reviewed as your processes change.

Generic AI vs. governed AI

Why governance changes the answer

Capability Governed AI on NetSuite (Atypical) Generic AI bolted on
Access control Scoped to each user's NetSuite role, at record and field level Whatever the connection can see — often everything
Write safety Read-only by default; writes separately approved and logged Can be talked into changing records
Audit trail Every query logged with user, timestamp and records touched No trace of what was asked or read
Data residency Stays on your instance and model; you set retention Data can leave your control via the model provider
Rollout Sandbox first, staged by department, reversible Straight to production, all teams at once
Accuracy Answers grounded in live NetSuite records via MCP Hallucinates when it lacks structured access

Frequently asked questions

Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to NetSuite?

Yes. NetSuite's AI Connector Service exposes your ERP over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard both Claude and ChatGPT speak. We connect the assistant of your choice, read-only by default, scoped to each user's role.

Is it safe to give an AI access to our ERP?

It is when access is governed. We deploy read-only by default, enforce NetSuite's record- and field-level permissions per role, log every query, and red-team the assistant before go-live. The assistant answers questions; it doesn't get a copy of your data.

Do we need to move our data out of NetSuite?

No. The assistant queries your live NetSuite instance through MCP and returns answers. There is no bulk export and no separate data warehouse to maintain — unless you want one.

What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP)?

MCP is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to systems of record. NetSuite's AI Connector Service speaks it, so Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-capable assistants can query your ERP through a governed interface instead of a brittle custom integration.

Can the AI change records, not just read them?

By default it can't — it's read-only. Write actions (creating a record, updating a field, approving a transaction) are opt-in, scoped, separately approved and logged, so an assistant can't modify your ERP unless you deliberately allow that specific action.

How long until we can try it?

A governed pilot on your own instance typically takes a few weeks: scope and access model first, connect via MCP on sandbox, add auditing and guardrails, then pilot with one team before rolling out.
